Design Inspiration - Origin Collection

We wanted to share some of the photographic references that underpin the Origin collection. As we travelled around India we found ourselves continually returning to the richly textured surfaces of the built and natural landscape.

A series of imperfect but deeply layered imagery inspired us to explore differing dye methods to achieve tonality within the yarn, which we combined with hardcarding to vary the yarn thickness.

Harri | Bhadohi District

An elevated basic, the Harri rug is woven with hardcarded yarn which varies in both thickness and shade, reflecting the beauty of the natural agricultural landscapes.

Amer | Amer Fort

Constructed from red sandstone and marble the vibrancy of this monumental structure has faded over the centuries leaving a patina that inspired the concept for the Amer rug.

Undyed yarns have a natural colouration which bring a soft mottled texture to this pattern akin to the weathered surfaces of Amer.

Jantar | Jantar Mantur

One of the oldest observatories in the world, we were fascinated by the combination of handcarved markings and natural aging present on the 19 astronomical structures.

We chose a handknotted construction to blend yarns resulting in an intricate pattern which reveals the beauty of woven jute beneath the surface.

Baori | Panna Meena Kund

These sunken structures with their endless stairways are a notable contrast from the decorative buildings elsewhere. As the sun travels overhead the shadows cast within and create a strong visual language.

Our pattern structure to Baori is created with an overstitch detail which also captures the light.
